【生活英文】Hiya~ 『氣炸鍋』『電烤盤』這些超夯廚具的英文你會幾個？

姪子姪女大家好，這裡是希叔叔，今天要來教大家一些當紅的廚具說法。開始之前，別忘了狠狠地按讚，就像你爸媽狠狠地揍你一樣（誤）。

 

這些超夯的廚具怎麼說？

wok

這個字為「中式炒鍋」。不同於 saucepan 這種「平底鍋」，wok 為傳統的圓頂大鐵鍋，專門用來做亞洲料理。例如：

If you want to cook a plate of authentic egg fried rice, you need to buy a wok. It creates “wok hei” during the cooking process, which means “breath of the wok,” according to Uncle Roger.（你如果想炒一盤道地的蛋炒飯，就要買一個中式炒鍋。它會在烹煮過程中產生「鍋氣」，根據 Uncle Roger 的說法，就是「鍋之呼吸」的意思。）

We don’t have a wok at home, since it releases too many cooking oil fumes. （我們家裡沒有中式炒鍋，因為它會釋放過多的油煙。）

rice cooker

電飯鍋的說法就叫做 rice cooker，很直觀吧！另外，出國留學必備的大同電鍋叫做 electric pot。不過說實在，因為外國沒有這種鍋子，所以很多人還是分不清飯鍋跟電鍋的差別唷。來看個例句：

You can cook perfect rice with a rice cooker. By the way, if you don’t have a rice measuring cup, try the so-called “first knuckle method.”（你可以用電飯鍋煮出完美的米。順帶一提，要是你沒有米杯，可以試試看所謂的「第一指節方法」。

air fryer

這個單字就是這兩年最紅的「氣炸鍋」啦！來看例句：

There is no need to defrost your chicken. Just put it on a baking paper with a few sprays of oil, and place it in a preheated air fryer. That’s it.（雞肉不需要先解凍。把它放到烘焙紙上，撒點油，放進預熱好的氣炸鍋裡就行了。）

electric griddle

griddle 為「鐵板」，因此 electric griddle 就是現在很常見的「電烤盤」啦！例如：

I see many mukbangers use electric griddles to cook scrumptious dishes, such as cheese-topped steaks and spicy rice cakes. I want to buy one as well! （我看到很多吃播主用電烤盤做出很多美味的料理，像是起司牛排和辣炒年糕。我也好想要買一台！）

註：mukbang 為韓文外來語，由吃飯和直播兩個韓語單字組成。加上 -er 就變成專門吃飯給大家看的吃播主啦！

sandwich toaster

應該蠻多人都很想要一台熱壓吐司機吧！不同於一般的 toaster 只能單烤吐司，熱壓吐司機可以做出餡料（fillings）豐富的烤（grilled）三明治，深受各個族群的喜愛。來看個例句：

A: You know what? 7-Eleven now has sandwich toasters in its shops!（你知道嗎？小七現在店裡面有熱壓吐司機欸！）B: Wow, those poor clerks need to learn another new skill again. They are so versatile.（哇塞，那些可憐的店員又要學新的技能了。他們還真是樣樣精通啊。）

colander

相信有跟上流行的大家一定認得這個字吧！colander 為「碗型濾網」，用來瀝乾食物的多餘水分。例如：

Even Jamie Oliver used a colander to drain rice. That was totally unbelievable. （就連 Jamie Oliver 都用濾網瀝米。真是太離譜了。）

另外，日曆叫做 calendar，可別搞混囉！

pots and pans

pot 為深底的鍋子，而 pan 為淺底的平底鍋，所以合在一起就可以代稱「鍋碗瓢盆」 喔！看個例句：

You can buy all sorts of pots and pans in IKEA, and it also provides delivery service.（你可以在 IKEA 買到各式各樣的鍋碗瓢盆，而且也有提供運送的服務。）

all sizzle and no steak

sizzle 的意思為「油滋滋作響；爆香」，那麼只聞滋滋聲卻不見牛排，就表示「雷聲大，雨點小；虛有其表」的意思啦！是不是很有趣呢？看個例子：

Despite having an eye-catching résumé, Gloria is all sizzle and no steak—she has book smarts but is unable to make them practical.（雖然擁有很亮眼的履歷，但 Gloria 只是虛有其表罷了－－空有書本上的知識但沒辦法實際運用。）

If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

這是美國第 33 任總統杜魯門曾說過的一句名言，其實就跟字面上的意思一樣，「怕熱就別進廚房」意指人如果吃不了苦，就不要自不量力。例如：

Being a delivery person can be really exhausting. So if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.（當外送員是很累人的。所以你要是吃不了苦，就別不自量力啦。）
